Insight Protecting Youth From Gangs on Social Media Webinar
The National Gang Center (NGC) conducted a webinar focusing on how gangs use social media to recruit and carry out illegal activity; how to identify these threats; and how to apply knowledge and tools to protect youth. Speakers included Sergeant Heather Mundell of the Polk County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office and Chief Sean Baldwin (Retired) of NGC. The live event hosted nearly 700 attendees from various sectors in communities impacted by gangs, including law enforcement, prosecutors, probation and parole, educators, parents, and other community-based organizations. On behalf of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, IIR manages NGC to share knowledge and outcome‐driven practices to engage and empower local communities with chronic and emerging gang problems. NGC strives to create comprehensive solutions to prevent gang violence, reduce gang involvement, and suppress gang‐related crime.
