Brandon McGahee
Director, Information Technology
Brandon McGahee is the director of information technology (IT) with the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR). Mr. McGahee has been with IIR for over 20 years. During his 13-year tenure as a member of the IT team at IIR, Mr. McGahee has contributed to the IT department’s evolution from multiple vantage points. Beginning as an application developer, he ascended to a senior role, where his passion for technology and innovation led to the implementation of numerous enhancements that significantly improved IIR’s development offerings. His commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of programming nuances paved the way for a transition to a solutions architect within the development group. In this capacity, Mr. McGahee was instrumental in introducing and advocating for cutting-edge programming approaches such as clean architecture and dependency injection. He also mentored a team of application developers, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.
As Mr. McGahee transitioned into the role of IT manager overseeing project management, his focus shifted toward optimizing IIR’s development department’s Agile and Scrum practices. His experience as a solutions architect, coupled with an understanding of Agile and Scrum development methodologies, enabled him to greatly improve the development process and project planning. By educating both IT project managers and development staff, he has been able to cultivate a culture of continual improvement and innovation. Mr. McGahee’s efforts to develop both people and processes reflect his commitment to meeting and exceeding clients’ expectations through strategic planning, technical prowess, and a people-first approach.
Mr. McGahee has been particularly active in projects for the Tribe and Territory Sex Offender Registry System (TTSORS), the Sex Offender Registry Tool (SORT), the VALOR Officer Safety and Wellness Program, the Office on Violence Against Women’s National Violence Against Women Law Enforcement Training and Technical Assistance Consortium, and many other IIR projects. For these projects, he has been involved in project planning, system architecture, and/or development.
As director of information technology at IIR, Mr. McGahee provides strategic and operational leadership for all IT functions, overseeing managers and teams responsible for application development, project management, digital services, and infrastructure operations. Working closely with the chief information officer, he guides technological innovation while ensuring effective delivery of IT services, managing enterprise-wide systems and operations, developing technology policies and standards, and maintaining security compliance.
Mr. McGahee is a certified Professional Scrum Master I and a Project Management Institute Agile Certified Practitioner and holds a bachelor’s degree in information studies from Florida State University.
